Jamzu 1.60 Update

Jamzu 1.60, with online multiplayer and the new Jamzu Choose variant, should be out by mid-January.

Jamzu Choose works similarly to DieDeck, but instead of a roll being drawn randomly from the deck, the player gets to choose which roll to play. This variant makes Jamzu a game of pure strategy.

Really looking forward to playing Jamzu online! More news as the next release gets closer.

Cheers and Happy Holidays,
~Doug

New Features in version 1.40 (full version):
- OpenFeint and Game Center with Achievements and Leaderboards
- Two fun games! Jamzu Classic and the new Jamzu DieDeck
- Greatly expanded Help section including 18 fantastic, illustrated Jamzu tips
- With DieDeck mode, your roll is randomly drawn from a deck of 1-6. Each player has their own deck. Once a roll is drawn, it cannot be played again for that cycle. This evens out the luck, and seeing which rolls are in the decks allows you to strategize in new ways.

Press Reviews for Jamzu

AppStruck.com ★★★★½

“Strategy-based fun board game that is quick to learn. Great app to play alone or with friends … Many of the options that Jamzu offers ought to be exemplary in all iPhone and iPod Touch board game apps. Unfortunately, this is not always the case, which makes me want to scream from the rooftops, “Bravo Jamzu!” … As with many successfully designed apps, the features are so seamless and logical that it takes a moment to stand back and notice that this is exactly as it ought to be.”

Livegeek.fr – 14/20

“Les jeux de plateau sont transmis de génération en génération depuis des temps immémoriaux. On compte parmi les plus célèbres les échecs, les dames, le jeu de Go, les petits chevaux et Jamzu. Ah, on me souffle que Jamzu n’est apparu qu’en 1997 de l’imagination de Johanna Pessirilo et Doug Nicola, fondateurs du studio Real Fun Art et qu’il fait aujourd’hui l’objet d’une adaptation iPhone et iPod Touch…”

Jamzu 1.3 for the iPad - Board Designs

The next major release of Jamzu, scheduled for mid-May, will include a version specifically designed for the iPad.

Jamzu 1.3 for the iPad and iPhone will include several new features and fixes, and I’ll be posting more news about this release over the next few weeks, as well as many more screenshots.

Here are the three new board designs that will be included as skins for Jamzu 1.3 on the iPad. Smaller versions of these new skins will also be included in Jamzu 1.3 for the iPhone.

Jamzu update :: Known issue & next features

Known issue in Jamzu 1.0.1, Single Player mode:
- After the first game is over in a match, difficulty level is reset to “Easy” for following games.
Workaround:
- Always start each game from “New,” and gameplay will be on correct difficulty level.

Coming very soon! Jamzu 1.1
- Includes fix for above issue.
- Includes new gameplay speed for Single Player. “Fast” is current default speed. “Slow” will allow more time for seeing each move.

Jamzu Roadmap

Now that Jamzu is getting out and about in the world, some users are asking what we have planned for updates. Aside from the usual bug fix stuff (see below) we have lots planned for Jamzu on the iPhone.

Some features that will be showing up, sooner or later:

:::: Move Clocks. Choice of 30, 20, 15, 10 and maybe even 5 second (ouch!) move clock. Move clock will be optional.

:::: Doubling Cube. When playing for points, the doubling cube in Jamzu would work very much the same as in backgammon.

:::: Color Themes. Some choices in addition to the classic red/blue/black.

:::: Character Themes. Fun little animated character icons for your runners and jammers. Carrying the themes over to the lane control x marks, board, animation, and other areas.

:::: Stronger AI. The current AI is pretty tough, but we’ll always be trying to make it stronger. This may involve things like genetic algorithms to train the computer player, and/or neural nets, as well as various improvements to the current algorithm.

:::: Localized Versions. The ones we would like to start with first are likely German, Japanese, Italian, Spanish and French. More would follow later.

There are many other ways we will be updating Jamzu as we go forward, and Jamzu Pro will be offering some new twists soon. And of course, we would really love to hear your suggestions and feedback!
